Class 5/6B   Summer Term 2024

Healthy Heart, Healthy Mind

Our theme this term focuses on what it means to be healthy and happy. Through exploring our topic ‘Healthy Heart, Healthy Mind’, we will consider how physical exercise impacts our mental and emotional wellbeing. We will look at how different exercises change our heart rate and produce information texts to persuade others to take up and enjoy a physical activity or sport.

We will explore feelings and emotions through creative experiences and discuss events that may impact our emotional and mental wellbeing. We will consider how our bodies change as we get older.

We will also explore some of the key events that have shaped the modern day Olympics and take part in a variety of athletics events in preparation for sports day.

During the topic, Year 6 will visit Storey Arms for a week long residential and take part in a wide variety of outdoor adventurous activities. Year 5 will take part in an intensive 3-week block of swimming lessons.

In line with the new 'Curriculum for Wales', ‘pupil voice’ is stronger than ever. The children have generated lots of fun and exciting ideas they would like to explore through all 6 of the Areas of Learning Experience.

Our Cwrt Rawlin Curriculum is developing with the children at its heart. It is based on the 4 purposes and interweaves all 6 areas of Learning and Experiences into purposeful learning opportunities. Our learning pedagogy is based upon the 12 Pedagogical Principles, which forms the platform from which we are then able to apply a wide range of ways to develop skills within authentic learning opportunities. We aim to encompass a wide range of opportunities to develop the cross curricular skills of Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Competence.

Immersion days at the start of the term are followed by celebration days at the end of term, to showcase the learning that has taken place.
